Game Review (written by Izzimi) Added on: 12/28/2006
My Adventure to the Castle of the Winds:
It was about 10 years ago, when I was introduced to one of the best games I ever played in my life. Trust me it didn't look impressive. In fact it looked whack! Until I sat down 1 day and played the game....
This Exciting Adventure Game is about A warrior whose Home has just been destroyed by evil forces...
You start out in a simple town, with little money and little variety of inventory [swords, helmets, shields etc.....] as you go north u notice a castle.

This Exciting Adventure Game is about A warrior whose Home has just been destroyed by evil forces...

This is when the real journey begins....
As you venture thru floors in the castle, you face dangerous monsters [Giant rats, goblins, corpses, snakes etc.], grow levels, learn new spells [I recommend that every

player learns magic arrow 1st] and traps pitfalls that can lead to a gruesome death], and finally, secrets about the burning of your home. You also travel to distant towns. Along the way you can acquire enchanted or cursed items....you make your choice.
One of the best things of this game is that you don't necessarily have 2 get out of the castle 2 heal yourself with potions. You can sleep and recover your health and mana 4 spells. But.... Beware! If you sleep anyhow, certain monsters will interrupt your beauty sleep, and potentially beat you...
This game is really cool, but in our generation of gaming 2day it would be considered crap!
The controls are quite confusing at first… but when you acquire them the game becomes interesting…
The storyline is the best aspect of the game. If you’re looking for a really good, old, retro game, try this, perhaps you'll get hooked...
This game has a sequel, but I haven't played it unfortunately...
I hope 1 day I'll find it and play it....
I'll almost do anything 2 get my hands on this awesome title again....
The graphics….
Let’s skip the graphics... Okay, okay! They're bad! 4 our time. It's cartoonish and there is barely animation.
Well.
That marks the end of my review but it’s basically an awesome game….
Epic Mega Games should consider re-making the game 21st century style with the same storylines. It’s a really cool game… all it takes is patience, and you will enjoy yourself, you'll love it.

Once a year I return to Castle of the Winds. I like it very much. There's nothing better to relax. It get's never boring because the random generator creates new situations every time you play Castle.

COTW is an awesome game, no sound, no music, crappy graphics, and you ask why should you bother downloading it? Because everytime you play it, you'll be playing new dungeons, the different floors are totally random as to what monsters are there, what items are there, and what the map looks like. It's also incredibly simple to play, and you won't ever find yourself getting frustrated playing the game. On a plus side, you can listen to your own music while playing seeing as there isn't any in-game music. If you like games where you're constantly collecting new and better stuff to pump your character up with, this is the game for you. I still play this game every now and then, even though I started playing it back before windows 95 :)

It allows you to move your character from one episode to the next with gear intact, no worries. As you venture downward in either episode you encounter more powerful enemies who drop more powerful equipment, nothing too revolutionary there. Regardless, as you end either episode the game requires a certain finesse to complete, as some enemies are extremely difficult to overcome and some tend to swarm you or even summon more of them! This is definitely a game worth downloading! It is very addictive one!

Definitely the best game that I have ever played!

This was the first of its kind, a true rpg with a deep story and endless adventures and items. 10 out of 10.

Castle of the Winds is one of the great titles that has been produced in the shareware/freeware market. It's graphics are simple, using old Windows 3.1 style icons, but the gameplay is very deep. If you like RPGs, check this out, you might be suprised.
