Game Review (written by Rndspringer) Added on: 08/11/2006
Dragon Wars was one of my favorite games to play. This is a wonderful RPG game in my opinion. Now it wouldn't hold up to those we have today, but for the time it was great. The game style is a lot like Bard’s Tale I, II, II, and IV. The game-play and story are fairly basic and it takes a little time to get used to it, especially the spells and such, but it's great. I played it for hours on end.
As for the ending, I never finished it. I actually lost the disc before I finished it, but I got through a large amount of it.
Purgatory is where you start. I used to think it was like the Catholic idea of purgatory, but thinking back I think I was wrong. I think it was just the name of the place you were in. You start out with basically nothing. I think I started this game several times over from scratch, more from stopping playing it for real life reasons than anything else. The manual helps a lot in the beginning. I've tried it since then and had a lot of problems. So, if you can download the manual with it, you'll have a much easier time.

Even with the interface, the game has an interesting storyline. It wasn’t your typical hack-n-slash game. You interacted with NPC’s, solved puzzles and killed lots of different monsters. Some of the puzzles are not very easy; so don’t expect to finish this one in an hour or two.
All in all, I found this game to be an extremely enjoyable game to play. It was also quite challenging, though not so much so to make it too hard. The replay ability is pretty good too, though the story doesn’t change. In the end, the mediocre graphics, decent; but clumsy interface and just plain fun make this a good game to play. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give this one a solid 7. Not bad for a game that was created over a decade ago. If you are into to PC game nostalgia, and just a descent DOS game, you have to try this one!
