Dungeon Hack is a simple enough game, but one that can be a great deal of fun all the same. Create a character, and run through a randomly generated dungeon. This was usually one of the games that I would turn to when I was in-between other games, or just needed a break from one of the more hard-core CRPG games, etc.
Probably the biggest downside in the game in my opinion is the lack of balance for different character classes. Clerics have an easier time than warriors due to their ability to heal themselves more readily, even though they can't kill things as handily.

Probably the biggest downside in the game in my opinion is the lack of balance for different character classes. Clerics have an easier time than warriors due to their ability to heal themselves more readily, even though they can't kill things as handily. Magic users have an easier time with the ability (with the right spell) to identify magic items that you find,
etc.
While the game is still enjoyable as just about any character class you make, it can be frustrating at times to deal with the lack of such balance issues. There are a number of items that you can find within the game that help with this (an item that can identify other magic items, for example), but they are fairly rare. Also note that while there are cheat codes for the game, such as a key-combo that spawns an item for you, they are limited in their helpfulness if you're looking to rebalance things based on your chosen character class. For example, you can spawn items with the cheat code, but eventually you run out of items to create - literally. It seems that when the game makes the random dungeon, it also creates a random list of items. I'm guessing when you kill a monster, it just has the "next" item in that list. When you use the cheat code, it just spawns the next item in that list for you right there (if you save the game and spawn a dozen items, then reload and repeat, you'll get the same dozen items - but only in that randomly generated dungeon). The fact that there is a limit to items that way, as well as other limitations like not being able to take a character from one random dungeon to the next (making a "higher" level dungeon, etc) keep this game limited to the "fun, but not stellar" category. Long term replayability is there due to the simplicity, but don't expect to spend an entire week playing it over and over again.
Despite these issues, the game is still worth checking out in my opinion. One of the few that I would keep going back to many years later, for a bit of random fun. As always, your mileage may vary.
