Fountain of Dreams is the sequel to the popular video game hit, Wasteland. While not as good as its predecessor, Fountain of Dreams is still a worthwhile offering from Electronic Arts. Interplay was the creator of the original tale in Wasteland, and offered much superior play. Still, for an early nineties role-playing game, Fountain of Dreams does have some merit. It is actually a good sequel and uses a modified engine of Wasteland for game play.
Like Wasteland, Fountain of Dreams puts the protagonist in a post apocalyptic world.

Like Wasteland, Fountain of Dreams puts the protagonist in a post apocalyptic world. A series of drastic nuclear explosions following a bombing have caused the American state of Florida to break off from the mainland, allowing the peninsula to float into the sea on its own. A high degree of nuclear

waste has created the constant threat of mutation from exposure on the island, and a group of stranded circus performers have created a faction of heavily armed, half-insane marauders calling themselves the Killer Clowns. The isolated community is always in fear from factions such as this. Aside from the Killer Clowns, the residents of Florida have to contend with the De Soto family, the Obeah Orders, and the Bahia Mafia three powerful groups struggling for control of the land. The Killer Clowns have murdered the only man who knew how to stop the mutation and pinch the power supply of the violent, radiated factions. The user, and a small band of adventurous others, set out on an adventure across the decimated Florida wilds in an effort to locate the Fountain of Dreams a legendary water supply that is fabled to thwart the effects of mutation, and will save Florida and its residents from the groups who are trying to control it.
There are many sub quests for the user to follow as the band of mercenary fighters trek across Florida, slowly succumbing to the effects of the radiation. There are a multitude of non-playing characters with which to interact, and Fountain of Dreams does include the nice touch of day versus night, and different events that are based on the time of day. The interface is fairly simple to understand and the game plays out like a very stereotypical role-playing game, with the heroes battling weird, radiated beings, as well as members of the renegade groups. The adventurers will gain strength as they progress through the game and complete quests.
In short, Fountain of Dreams is no Wasteland, but it certainly features a good story line that will appeal to fans of the first Wasteland RPG. It has plenty of flaws that require the user to save often; overall it is a good game and is worth a look, particularly for those who enjoyed the original. You’ll be satisfied and interested!
