Do you long for the console style RPGs of the SNES? Well, it does not get much better than the Laxius Power Series (10 out of 10). This game gives new meaning to the word EPIC. This 100 hr RPG is the real deal. If you think that there is no way a console style RPG could possibly entertain you for that long, you would be mistaken. The Final Fantasy style world is huge. With 50+ side quests you get a similar fill as with open, non-linear style, RPGs.
Lucky for you, once you have finished “Laxius Power: Random Story” there are two more games in the series that are both larger than the first.
Storyline:
The game starts out in the town of Rilla. You are a young aspiring swordsman Random. You team up with your girlfriend (lover) Sarah and you two head out to reach SankT Leona to participate in a tournament. Along the journey you will come into contact with other characters that will be able to assist you on your journey, namely Luciana and Coryool. You will also recruit a couple animal/creatures that can assist in battle and are useful in some of the side quests. When you reach SankT Leona for the first time, you
may think the journey (and game) are about over, but things are just heating up. The Dark Order is set on world domination and it is up to you and your friends to restore order.
Game Play:
This game has puzzles and side quests galore. Levelling up is the same as with traditional RPGs (XP points). When you gain a level, you can improve your character's statistics, making him or her more powerful in whatever way you select. There are a great number of weapons and items that you can find or purchase that will also make your heroes more formidable. You gain money by finding it or fighting for it.
Controls:
Easy as 1, 2, 3! Move characters with the arrow keys and the spacebar or enter key acts as the action button.
Graphics:
SNES, do I have to say more. To be more technical it is coded with ASCII RPG maker. As with most console RPGs you will see the same bookshelves and pots in every city. But don’t fret, the creators do a good job of changing the layout of cities and giving each one its own unique feel.
Replay Ability:
You will spend so much time going through this trilogy you will probably have forgotten the details of the first one by time you finish. This game is equipped with the ability to change difficulty levels. This gives the game a different fill the second time around. Since the game is so long I would encourage you to play it on normal to begin with so that you can beat it in a timely fashion and then come back and play it on difficult IF YOU DARE.
Word of Warning! This game contains adult language and sexual content.
