This is a classic game set as always in a world in a time of difficulty. You assume the role of four heroes, each receiving strength and ability from the four elements (which you select at the beginning). Then you set of to defend the world against evil forces.
Each of the four characters have special abilities, the berserker is the strongest. With the ability to berserk he is the main force and usually the quickest way through the hordes that you will face.

With the ability to berserk he is the main force and usually the quickest way through the hordes that you will face. The Bard, with the ability to play songs (which you must purchase in taverns) which increase your parties abilities. The assassin who has the ability to become invisible, and do some pretty good damage. And last and maybe the most important,
the wizard who has the ability to create spells and use magic.
The magic system is a little difficult until you get the hang of it, but is the means to solve many of the puzzles that you will encounter throughout this game. It consists of mixing runes and ingredients in order to create the desired effects (runes and ingredients must be purchased, half of the difficulty in the game is finding the city that has them).
The game takes place in both an overland map, in which you will travel to different cities and fight armies, yes, entire armies with just your four heroes. There you will be able to buy horses (to make you move a lot faster on the map) and spend money to strengthen the defenses of the cities to resist the armies of monsters that will assault them. The more time passes during the game the more appear each day, until you eventually will be destroyed by the infinite numbers of armies all around the world, so time is not on your side. And there are also dungeons which are full of monsters and puzzles...and hours of running around. They make up most of the game, and are filled with the things you need to progress in the storyline and make your way to destroying the great evil that has come upon the land.
There are many items, many of which have awesome powers (be careful some disappear once the charges are gone, which is not pretty when it is your helmet) and you will gain levels which will make it even play as you kill hundreds of monsters in an attempt to keep the final city from falling.
Good luck in this game, you will need it, since some of these puzzles are near-impossible...
