Tolkien and his books will probably go on forever. Aside from the bible it is one of the most read books. I like old D O S games and when I heard Interplay had made a game, I just had to see it. At first it was hard to understand the commands, but after you got the hang of the game, it was something in your lifetime that you will never forget.
Some good things about this game are that the game did not follow the storyline of the books very well.
This is good because it adds some touch, pizzazz, and originality to the game. Some other good things are that you can have features such as fully customizable characters (partially) and fellowships.
Some bad things are that the graphics are mediocre. This is probably because it is a D O S game. Other bad things are that some of the areas of the field, map, levels, etc. are almost impossible to get through. These areas are the Mines of Moria, the Barrow Downs, the Dol Guldur, and the Sharkey's Shipping. Other things are a lack of cheat codes, but I found a great but difficult to achieve Easter egg. How it works is if you go into the pass over
the mountains, when the game says you can not go any further because of the cold wind, if you try and pass it anyway, a character will run past the barrier and if you pause the game before he or it comes back, and select that character as the leader of the group, the rest of the fellowship will follow, allowing you to bypass the Mines of Moria. You have to be fast to put into effect this Easter egg. If you do not do it right, such as if one of the hobbit s runs out, then just take a guess and hope you have if right.
Some random facts I would like to share with potential downloaders are: the movie clips in the game are from the actual animated movie. Sometimes it is also a good idea to take your chances and also possible to stray from the books' storyline. You might just end up with a better ending than I have achieved. I do not know if this true, but maybe you can correct me, I have heard that Radagast the Brown will turn into a werewolf.
