While movie to game translations normally don't work out that well, neither does Lord of the Rings 2: Two Towers. It isn't as bad as some of the most ill-fated movie-to-game translations such as E.T. but it certainly doesn't live up to the expectations of the player.
The gameplay is mediocre at best, but it does offer a few decent cut-scenes, but they're mostly taken straight from the movie and the quality is pretty terrible comparatively. The entire adventure just doesn't feel as "epic" as the movie.

The atmosphere of the entire game doesn't capture the magical Lord of the Rings quality that it should live up to.
The controls
aren't bad in general, and you can always use other utilities to re-map keys for computer games, so I don't have a problem with that, but the interface could be a bit cleaned up. Not to mention the sometimes unresponsive controls. In some of the most difficult parts of the game, timing is key and when it doesn't recognize your actions at all, then it becomes very difficult. The majority of the game is a joke in terms of difficulty except for these few impossibilities.
Nonetheless, the game isn't as bad as it seems I'm making it out to be. While it could definitely use some improvement, it is a pretty fun game despite the few exceptions such as the controls, etc. and the quite obvious lack of real adventure that is depicted in the movie.
The game is definitely worth a try, but beware the tedious controls that you have to absolutely make sure it recognizes your actions. I think the game might be a lot more fun if you hadn't yet seen the movies, but then you would probably be ruining the movies for yourself. Also there isn't much of a "unique" storyline -- as I said, there are only a few cutscenes that are original/reworked for the game. The rest are basically copy-pasted from the movie.
It is unfortunate that the developers couldn't have come up with something a bit more original. Why couldn't they make it so that the game has large pieces unique to it, so that it has an entirely different feel than the movie? Although I guess they did succeed in making the game have an entirely different feel... just not in a good way.
Overall, I'd give it a 7/10.
