The game, as one could easily see from the title, is a game about J. R. R. Tolkien's classic and immortal tale, Lord of the Rings. The game follows the books very well. Stretching all the way from The Fellowship of the Ring, moving into the Two Towers, and then finally ending in The Return of the King.
Normally, a game that ties into a book usually doesn't do very well. The game will try to cut corners in the story, or try to re-write the story all together just to make the game-play more interesting, but with The War for Middle Earth, this is not the case.

Unfortunately, the game is little known. It
started in Australia, which is probably a large reason why the game never really got hyped in America.
The graphics for the game are very good, spanning so far as to give the player a 'zoom' feature. In some cases, you might even be able to see some characters on certain buildings using this feature!
The sound in the game is next to nothing. There really is no music to speak of, except when you, for instance, pick up an item or trigger a certain event. Other than that, there's nothing there, unfortunately.
The game-play is, unfortunately, rather limited. There's not a whole lot you can do in certain situations, like a battle event. But that's ok, since the story and the freedom you get from the actual game-play storyline makes up for it. What's most interesting about the game-play is that you can really meet almost all of the characters from the original story, Lord of the Rings. You can meet Ents, the Balrog, Sauron, and lots of others.
An interesting thing about this game is that it's not really a full RPG. It has a lot of war-like strategy to it, which gives it a different style and feels all together, and a good one at that.
Something else about the game that's interesting is that the game-play time is really up to you. You can win the game quickly by destroying the Ring as soon as you can, or take you time, build up your forces, and recount the epic battle for Middle Earth right there on your screen.
Overall, the game is fun, but one a few times. After a while, it could get rather boring. All in all, a good game.
