Shadowrun on Genesis is an exciting extension of the rpg game feel. While it included a campaign story line, it allowed a huge amount of freedom in deciding how you wanted to play the game. There are plenty of fun classes available, areas to explore, and like in the rpg, you speak to Mr. Johnsons for missions to earn money for better items and spells. Missions include shoot em up objectives, corporate theft, and even hacking computer systems. If you loved Shadowrun, you'll probably love this game, and it's not a game that can be completed overnight.

It will take time to develop your character, and the storyline is very good, so it's a progress that's easy to look forward to.
Development
of your character is more than upgrading gear - you start out as a nobody, a bum in the city world of Seattle. Uptown clubs won't let you in because they don't know you, contacts must be acquired, and places change over the course of the game, as do the people who live in them. By playing the game, it won't be long though before you're known around town, people want to hire you, mercenaries want to follow your lead, and even the mighty fortress of Renraku Corporation will be a playground for you, of elevators, security cameras, safes, electronic locks, alarms, and gun toting henchmen. Keeping true to the game style, deckers will find places within a corporation to hack directly into the main frame. Hacking is easily one of the most interesting aspects of the game.
When you enter the inside of the computer, there is a map like a flow chart that is waiting to be discovered, and each node has a different function. Levels of security may vary, but cybercombat against IC (intrusion countermeasure) programs are as diverse as live combat and challenging. You will certainly want to keep your own programs up to par against systems of increasing difficulty. It's very cool how you can choose different programs to load and use for a variety of effects. Capturing a node gives you access to that node's computer components. If you're hacking into the system while your other teammates are on a run inside the building itself, you may want to find and lock down the nodes controlling security cameras and alarm systems and electronic lock devices. If you need a phone number, you might find the information you're looking for stored in a personal data file of an executive. Once you have access to the CPU, you can even crash the entire system. The cyber combat of Shadowrun is engaging and very fun, as are the other elements of the game. I look forward to playing it once again.
