Game Review (written by Armor87) Added on: 05/02/2007
Sorcerian is a fun game that I played as a kid. The game was originally made in 1987 by Sierra and Falcom. The game starts out like Wizardry, but once you start the different adventures, it changes to a side scroller.
You create 4 characters and select a class for each of them. There are 4 classes: Elf, Dwarf, Wizard, and Fighter. You also select an occupation for them. At first this may not seem very important, but for some of the levels you have to have a character with a particular occupation.

At first this may not seem very important, but for some of the levels you have to have a character with a particular occupation. You then train them and buy them different equipment. After they have their equipment, you can take them on different scenarios. There are 3 different scenarios, each with 5 different levels. The levels

get progressively difficult and require your characters to be more powerful. Once you have defeated all the levels in one of the scenarios you can “Fight Dragons”. This seems to be the goal of the game. You fight many of the dragons that you have faced in the different levels, except they are much more powerful now. Some of the puzzles are a little difficult and the answers are not always obvious. But you can pick up different weapons and imbue them with magic. The magic is a little complicated and seems to be based on the Roman mythology. But the element that you add to the item is not always the element that is actually realized. Oftentimes one has to add the magic in a certain order in order to get a particular spell on the item.
Level advancement is controlled in the town by visiting the throne room. If you have enough experience points the king bestows a new level upon you. There is also the weapon shop, the magician, the elders, the church, the herb woman, the training field, and the musician. The weapon shop never seems to get any new weapons and only has the most basic weapons that you can find in the game.
However, if you bring a weapon back from an adventure, you can get more money by selling it in town versus at the end of the adventure. The magician can remove curses and imbue magic in items. The church can also remove curses, but only if you have paid them with donations for a long period of time. The elders can examine any weapon you have and tell you what type of spell is on it. They can also release any magic that cannot be used on an item, allowing you to cast the spell that is on it. The herb woman can make potions from the herbs that you find on your adventures. The training field can train you for two years and increase your stats. You have to have stats of a certain level before you can do certain adventures. Finally the musician can play the score from any of the adventures in the game.
