Game Review (written by Ghaleon) Added on: 10/02/2006
The Spirit Engine is one of the best freeware RPGs out there. This game has excellent game play. You choose your party and each character has a well-written story line in the beginning. You are able to choose a priest, rifleman or mage and there are three of each all different than the other. Each character has different strengths in different areas of attack, defense and healing.
The game play is rather confusing at first. Your party has a list of attacks each character performs in that order.

list. In battle though you are able to click on one of three stars on the bottom to use that attack but your character will do that attack for the rest of the battle unless you pause and change the list or click on another star. You have to do this for each character. This gets more complicated when you level up and unlock more attacks.
Graphics on this game are pretty decent. There are animated drawings and aren’t too bad comparing to other freeware games. The game is smooth and can be addictive because you only have initial attacks in the first few levels and you might want to really see your real attacks. You really just walk into a battle when you see a monster. You might have to go back and train in previous areas to tackle the monsters ahead and that feels like an annoying aspect of the game. Another annoying aspect is the save system. You have to save at certain statues in town and some of them even charge you gold. That means if you die at a focal battle in the story you have to travel there back again and fight all the monsters on the way all over again. Health is annoying a little annoying because you have to rotate the party order so the front or second character doesn’t die on you.
Over all the game is rather a good boredom buster and is totally worth downloading. If you are a bored teenager in the middle of summer vacation this is a must download. This is also good for the avid freeware gamers out there because this game isn’t a piece of junk. The installation is rather easy to so it’s great for some new people out there ready to download games. I highly recommend this game.
