Game Review (written by Benjy1987) Added on: 10/31/2006
The summoning is a truly amazing game!! No mere pastry 20 or 30 hours game play, it promises excess of a hundred hours and each one of them is packed with action, puzzles and level gaining excitement. The optional tutorial beginning gives new players a chance to get to grips with the controls, or old players to get some equipment for later on, followed by 5 sub quests, each of which has up to 6 levels in it plus a few bonus ones outside.

Admittedly the graphics aren’t up to your neverwinter nights or oblivion and game play may seem rather limited in scope – there’s only one way to complete the quest and being “evil” is never an option – but

the story line is inspired and the action effects and strategy of the battles (hacking through a fight may only get you so far) makes the game well worth while. Also see if you can work out the twist before you get to it……!!
One of the great things about this game is its problem solving elements. You will rarely find their type in the new rpg, which is more centered on “real life” problems of find the map follow it and fight the bug eyed monster, the summoning gives a few impressively difficult puzzles which require, amongst other things, careful use of the palimpsest (a much better name than “map”!!), weighing down the correct combinations of plates and sending things through portals. Even some solutions which might seem plain stupid at the time, like throwing a completely serviceable bottle at a wall to destroy it, can end up moving you through the game.
The only slight downside of the game is the reliance on perishable objects to get you through various doors. Deadly nightshade, gold, gems and particularly pearls (keep a store of at least 1 white pearl throughout the game if you can, don’t ask why, just do!!) are all useable outside of the specific doors they open but if you use them that can stop you getting any further. Keep a stock of all of them, the pearl as I said in particular, and you’ll be fine. Also don’t be scared of having lots of saved games. I’d suggest one in service and one at the completion of every level, it’ll make it less frustrating when you make a terminal mistake so you won’t have to go back to the beginning. Again. For the eighth time when you’ve got to the 4th section of the sixth level. Trust me. I’m talking from experience here. Keep that pearl. (White). Please.
To conclude then: This is an amazing game, it was one of the first of its type and is worth every second you will spend playing on it, if it sounds good then its better. If it sounds great…well you get the idea. Buy the game, period.
