In 1988 there was the fifth instalment of the Ultima series placed into the world of gaming. Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny was a role-playing computer game. In the beginning of this game you will soon learn that the Lord British went missing during an expedition through the Underworld and Lord Blackthorn has taken over the throne of Britannia. Throughout the countryside there are three Shadowlords causing havoc on the town.
Once Blackthorn has taken over he emplaces eight virtues that cause a lot of strain on the town.
If citizens in the town do not obey these virtues they will be executed. Soon the Avatar has been summoned back into Britannia to form Warriors of Destiny who will soon eliminate the Shadowlords, ignore Blackthorn’s rules, and bring Lord British

back to his rightful throne.
The three Shadowlords that were included each take on the three antithesis principles. These consist of Truth, Love, and Courage. The first Shadowlord was Nosfentor who was the Shadowlord of Cowardice; the second was Astaroth who was the Shadowlord of Hatred, and lastly Faulinei who was the Shadowlord of Falsehood. This was a great characteristic decision for Warriors of Destiny.
When Warriors of Destiny was designed it had one of the most well written and detailed formats compared to all the others parts of this series. With the inclusion of time period during the game allowing you to know when a day passes with sun rises and sets it was more realistic to actual life. Culture living was highly respected in this game still taking on a dictatorial format.
In Ultima V there was the inclusion of a Runic alphabet, which is a more modified form of Elder Futhark runic alphabet. This was used for some of the game text that corresponded some of the English alphabet for further understanding for the players.
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny was a fabulous addition to the Ultima series. With more detailed areas throughout the game it took on a more unique feel compared to previous games of the series. For a role-playing game the player will get a great feel of the game of life throughout the game with your characters still needing to do daily routines like a true human life.
Take on this challenging but exciting game that has been enjoyed by thousands of players over the years. For being released in 1988 there was a lot of detail included into the game to make it feel like a newer game for players who had not experienced other games from this era. Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny will have you amazed and wanting more by the time you complete so take on the whole series to get a great feel of the Ultima series.
