Game Review (written by Theplan) Added on: 09/22/2006
Warrior Dragon is, much like the game it parodies, Dragon Warrior, your basic RPG. However, that may be part of its appeal. You start off as a weak dragon out to save the world, but all this game lacks is Otol the Legendary Hero. Combat is one-on-one, much like Dragon Warrior/Quest, and instead of physical barriers like many modern RPGs, it becomes clear where you shouldn't travel when enemies start killing you in 1 hit. Much of the game will be spent power-leveling, which is unfortunate as this RPG parody has great potential.
It is hardly on par with Dragon Quest Five or even the weakest of Final Fantasies, but Warrior Dragon is far less costly then the previously mentioned. This is not to say that Warrior Dragon is bad, but instead Warrior Dragon is a simple time spender. It may not be anywhere close to epic, but the often quick battles and map movement allows Warrior Dragon to be one of few RPGs that can just be played for a few minutes at a time, or for hours at a time. It may not be the best RPG out there, but Warrior Dragon is genuinely fun.

Fun: 9/10

Also, like many RPGs out there, Warrior Dragon has very appealing and mood-fitting music. You may not be a human hero, but the

feeling of being on an epic quest does not leave just by abandoning the human hero.

Music: 8/10

In terms of gameplay, Warrior Dragon loses quite a bit of appeal, sadly. In today's day and age, one-on-one battles just don't work, nor does a solo quest. Battle systems hardly age well, and the Dragon Warrior battle system ages worse than most. The days of one-on-one battles are over in RPGs, as are the days of 2-D platforming. Thankfully, the gameplay does not remove any fun from the game, which seems to be the best reason to play games anyways, right?

Gameplay: 3/10

Overall, Warrior Dragon is well worth a hardcore RPG fan's time to download and play, but I would advise any casual gamer to avoid this, and instead look to modern RPGs if they truly want to play one. Hardcore fans, especially the old-school Dragon Warrior, fans will love Warrior Dragon, but even fans of just Final Fantay may find Warrior Dragon endearing in it's own kooky, fire-breathing, way.

Overall: 7.834/10
