Aces of the Deep, released for MS-Dos in 1994, is a U-boat simulation game in the World War II scenario. It was the last in the Aces series created by Dynamics. The other games included in the series are: Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe, and the Red Baron. The game was released in 1995 as Command: Aces of Deep for Windows.
In the game, you will be in charge of a U-Boat for the German navy. You can play either the single mission mode or the career mode.
In the single mission mode, you have to lead your U-boat into victory in different scenarios. You can attack enemy convoy and other ships or you can engage in historical missions. In the career mode, you have to choose the year you start your career and then go on a number of missions where you will
Receive promotions and get upgraded to different models of the U-boat. The career mode ends at the end of the war. At the start of the career mode you are given a standard Type II boat with very little capabilities and weapons. At the beginning of the game you will be facing less challenging enemies so your sub should be enough but as you go on with the game, you will encounter
more challenging foes.
The good quality of the game can be attributed to the graphics and the developer’s attention to detail. The game features a variety of warships and other ships like oil tankers and also aircrafts. The ships and aircrafts are all historically based even the battle fields are based on history. The game also features a Kriegmarine War map that is realistic. The submarine also features charts that show you the status of equipments and other essential statistics for the game.
The game really gives you the excitement of being aboard a submarine with its great graphics and sounds. You get a nice background and sceneries in the game complete with sunrise and sunset. Enemy ships are well done and many of the ships and aircrafts were accurate.
This submarine simulation game is one of the best World War II games that I’ve have ever played. It gives you a good glimpse of how it is to be part of the German navy during the World War II. With clean graphics and engaging music the game keeps you interested for a long time.
