This game is huge. There is no other way to begin describing Archimedean Dynasty and the impact it could have on gamers. Developed by Massive Development GmbH for Blue Byte Software, Archimedean Dynasty is a futuristic action and simulation hybrid.
The game takes place in the twenty-seventh century and sees the user as Emerald “Dead Eye” Flint, the pilot of a mercenary submarine. This is fortuitous, indeed, because the war torn world has been reduced to vast oceans, and humanity has created a civilization deep in the waters of the large sea.
People initially took to the seas, hoping to find new sources of the quickly depleting raw materials on the Earth. As conflicts between nations intensified, the demand for ores and other resources grew, pushing the teams of explorers deeper into the ocean floors. Climatic catastrophes ensued, followed by nuclear wars between over one hundred of the world’s nations. The result was a barren wasteland in a climate that could be described as nothing short of nuclear winter…a frozen desert. The people had to turn to the oceans to survive, but not everyone would be saved. Those too poor to pay their way were left to die on the planet’s surface. Those that fled to the ocean’s floor showcased a very poor memory, and soon
the world’s oceans were being exploited and fought over, just as was done on the surface.
Dead Eye begins on a downward swing in this game, following a botched mission. He will have to regain the trust of his employer by performing some demeaning rudimentary missions. These early missions serve as tutorials to help user learn the controls of the ship and its weapons. There is a little trick to learning how to pilot the sub, so make the most of these opportunities before the real fun starts. There are four different ships Dead Eye can pilot, each with its own configuration and payload. He will have to complete missions to make money in order to upgrade to bigger and better ships.
There are sixty underwater cities, over one hundred non-playing characters with whom Dead Eye can interact, and a total of sixty missions, some of which are optional and others are necessary to progress the plot. As mentioned above, this game is huge. It will definitely keep the user busy for a long time, and will provide a great and unique gaming experience along the way. This one is a must have.
