The Chronicles of Jaruu Tenk might be a good “game” for the gamer that isn’t really certain what he or she is looking for, because it is actually difficult to tell exactly what The Chronicles of Jaruu Tenk is. It is billed as a screen entertainment title…which is what? It isn’t really a game, and it isn’t really a screen saver or desktop theme. It is sort of somewhere in the middle…sort of like an interactive screen saver, maybe.
Moreover, the game really has no goals.
You are dropped into a really weird world, that much you can glean. After that, you just have to explore this interesting area and learn what you can about it… nothing specific, just learn. If you don’t learn all there is to learn, it really doesn’t matter. There are no time limits.
When you arrive inside the game, you will find yourself in Jaruu’s bedroom. He will introduce himself and there is a sort of brief tutorial before you are left to your own devices. Then you just wander off and look for things to do, which could be anything from watering the plants that look a little droopy to participating in the in-game mini game, which is a hunt

with Jaruu.
The Chronicles of Jaruu Tenk is definitely weird. For a 1999 release, it is trippy, unfocused, and a little bit far out, but you almost have to play it to see what it is all about. Or maybe, more accurately, what it ISN’T about.
