Game Review (written by Tvala) Added on: 02/24/2007
Elfish is easily in the top twenty best simulation games in there. For those who like to create their own fish tanks, there is no better game than this one. This is one of the few games where you can control everything about your tank from the way it looks to the way the fish look.
Gameplay on El-fish is set up differently from most games. The goal of the game is simply to create a tank of fish you can enjoy.
There is no mission mode as is common with other sims or real ‘win’. The game is won if you can make a tank you enjoy watching.
In Elfish you design your own fish tank, choosing everything from the color of the gravel to the type of plants. When you want to add fish to your tank, you can go out and catch them using the catch fish feature. If you want you can even breed the fish you have caught, so you can create fish of all shapes, sizes and colors. Fish can be created to look like most kinds of fish you see today with a little bit of time and effort. And for those who are truly creative,

you can mutate your fish, though this does make it so they can’t breed if done to the farthest extreme. The fish creation feature is one of the most fascinating and fun parts of the game.
Though El-fish is one of the oldest games out there, it is still one of my personal favorites. I remember having contests in the family to see who could create the brightest colored, or the most outlandishly colored fish, or the fanciest tank. We would experiment with everything from how the rocks stack to the way the plants swayed in the water. And of course we would all enjoy watching the fruits of our labors once our tank was done…At least until it got scrapped so we could start all over.
For those who find it too time consuming to create their own fish or even those who wish to see what kinds of fish they could create if they take the time to do so, there are all kinds of fish and tanks to be found on the web.
Graphics on this game are actually pretty good for the time. The fish are lifelike, and the tanks and tank objects are very well done as well. Though it is very dated, this one of those games I have found never truly goes out of style. This is one game that I recommend you try. You won’t regret it.
