F-22 Lightning 2, a flight simulation developed and released by NovaLogic, Incorporated, challenges the user to pilot what was touted to be one of the most influential aerial craft ever. F-22 Lightning 2 was released in the middle nineties for the personal computer, specifically for the Windows operating system. It plays from the first person perspective and is an appropriate play for gamers of all ages (although some of the controls may get a little bit complex for some younger pilots.) It is a fully licensed title, and plays out from the first person perspective from within the cockpit of the fighter plane.

F-22 Lightning 2 hit the markets very shortly after its predecessor. It offers the user several different methods of play. There is a single
player and multi player format, and the gamers have the ability to chat with one another during multi player play. Truthfully, the multi player death match is one of the most fun aspects of the game. The single player mode offers a standard series of set missions from which the user can choose. There is also a campaign mode, which will put the user in more of a career type of setting, as opposed to the quick mission sets.
Like most of the strategies and simulations put forward by NovaLogic, the emphasis in F-22 Lightning 2 is on sheer fun, action and entertainment as opposed to realism, historical accuracy and flight physics. The ordinances are not realistic, but can certainly make a mess of their targets; the controls within the cockpit are not terribly complex for older users; and the aerial maneuvers found in many other games…such as stalls etc, are not necessary. However, the graphics are stunning and the explosions are awesome. The backgrounds are very well done, and the terrains are well textured and beautiful on this three dimensional map. F-22 Lightning 2 concentrates solely on an aesthetic yet action packed gaming experience.
Flight simulator veterans who are looking for a true simulation as opposed to a simple first person shooter may not find F-22 Lightning 2 in-depth enough for their liking. The aerial and combat physics are just not as much of a factor as reflexes and button mashing. This is still a very valid play based on the heavy fire and fast-paced action that are just waiting for a pilot to tackle them.
