Game Review (written by Bassoonmac) Added on: 02/16/2007
In Galactic Empire, strategy and thought are necessary. This is not one of those mindless, TV-like games. Though somewhat like Galactic Civilizations, this game is unique in its highly advanced graphics and complex gameplay. You have the option of several different levels of quality, some so quality that even my computer can't handle them.
The purpose of the game is to conquer all the other star systems in the galaxy. Normally, there are five other civilizations that you compete with. The difficulty can be adjusted from "extremely easy" to "impossible".
First, you decide which type of galaxy to play in and which type of civilization you want to be. During the game, you build starships, colonize planets, and, of course, destroy other civilizations. Probably the most impressive aspect of the game lies in the technological research possibilities. You have the chance to research over 500 different technologies with enable you to build many different structures and ships.
You can even set up the game so that you can win just through research. Among these 60 starships is the capital star. I always try to build these because they can implode stars, not even giving the planetary defenses a time to fight back. The diplomatic component of the game is equally impressive. The game allows you to communicate with each of

the other civilizations, negotiating peace treaties, trading technologies and starships, and demanding stars (if you're strong enough). My favorite part about talking with other civilizations is how weird the leaders look. The music is not bad, either. The "planetary reviewers" is a democratic group that holds events like fairs and cultural interaction events. This group just adds another level of depth to the entire complexity of the game.
I bought this game a few years ago in February. Unlike most of the games that I buy, this game is still entertaining to me. This is probably because there are so many possibilities. Every time you play, the galaxy is different, the other civilizations have different personalities, and the entire game progresses differently.
