The game is quite well balanced for as simple as it now seems. The AI is somewhat simplistic, but also very playable. I spent many an hour trying to conquer an 8 opponent game. It takes a deft touch to determine when the best game times to make or break alliances are. Expect to do a bit of fiddling to get your resources adjusted right.

This game is a very well developed economic simulation where the user competes against several "AI" models all of whom share the resources of a world. This game was EXTREMELY advanced in many areas, incorporating the idea of leader heads and leader attitude towards the player nearly 6 years in advance of games like Civilization, additionally, the idea of critical resource bottlenecks was a potentially critical aspect of the game. Intentional or incidental monopoly of a resource can be a game winner - obviously the opposite is also true. It has a couple of downsides - notably the lack of a save feature, the less than stellar graphics and PC mono sound - but considering the game is nearly 20 years old and still holds up very well against more modern "god" games - such as civilization, starcraft or others.
