Game Review (written by Reaverks) Added on: 06/22/2007
High sea's trader is an average at best pirate’s game. It's similar to the old game known as "Pirates." However, this game is much different from Pirates in that it focuses more on the aspect of trade and commerce and far less on action. You won't find yourself quarrelling with hundreds of pirates on a pirate ship in this game! Still, within the game there are some aspects of fighting.
Some of the game can be considered extremely tedious and painful, it all depends what type of games you like.

Some of the game can be considered extremely tedious and painful, it all depends what type of games you like. If you're into puzzle/maze type games then who knows, maybe High Sea's trader is for you after all! The game also features a navigation system and -- surprise, is also tedious. It's not difficult

to get the hang of it and you can actually pick it up quite easily, unfortunately it does take some time to actually master. From the outside the game seems kind of bland but once you get into it, it can be difficult to put down. So whatever you do, don't start playing it and give up on it so easily! Just stick with it, you'll later enjoy it. I won't give away the game's ending but it's well worth it.
The game is a relatively long game which is good, if it were short you'd be disappointed I'm certain. The game does most things average at best, fighting, navigation, graphics, sound, etc. But what it does well, it does very well. It blends almost perfectly a combination of trading and action. In fact I'd say if you were going to really measure it out this game does 1 part fighting and 1 part trading! Still at the end of the day, this game is freeware and there's a good reason it is, because not many people would be willing to put out cash for a game like this. I would say some people will absolutely LOVE this game, and some will absolutely hate it, there won't be many people that say it's alright. Just be certain that if you find the courage to download it, that you give it an honest chance. When I first began playing I thought it was rather dull, but it livens up very quickly. All in all I would give this game about 8 out of 10. Gameplay was rather good, but the music is just terrible, I don't expect much for graphics so I can't really say too much there.

Remember Pirates? Well, High Seas Trader is a bit like the Microprose classic but more oriented to trade and less to action. It will take You a lot of time to beat some of the game's parts (like combat and navigation) but as soon as You figure it out You will enjoy in this, rather complex game. An interesting mix of trade and combat.
