Game Review (written by Jdthiele) Added on: 04/29/2007
Lunar Command is a remake of the 80s classic Missile Command. The premise is the same- protecting moon bases from incoming missiles by shooting them down with missiles of your own. Just like in the original, you have 6 moon bases to protect, and you protect them with one master turret that can shoot anywhere on the screen. Your arsenal consists of scuds and mega scuds, the mega scuds create a bigger damage area to take out more than one incoming missile. This remake has updated graphics and sounds, looks and sounds great! I remember spending many hours playing the original on my Atari 1200XL, this is a very fun an addicting game and certainly worth a consideration, if you in to the arcade style games.

The basic goal of the game is to keep incoming missiles from hitting your moon bases, very often you have more than one, sometimes up to 10 coming down all at once all moving at different speeds and you have to act quickly, but accurately as you do NOT want to run out of missiles. So don't waste your missiles firing randomly or chaotically, make accurate and planned shots while always keeping in mind that you will want to "kill two birds with one stone", if your able to. After a while, the ratio of missiles you are given to and the number of missiles that will rain down on your moon bases becomes quite tight, and you risk running out of ammo, if you do not take out multiple incoming targets with one shot every now and then.
Each base can sustain 2 direct hits before being blow up, but it’s a good thing you build up repair credits early in the game when it’s still easy as you will loose bases frequently after level 10. I would recommend this game to anyone who remembers their Atari or Commodore fondly. Another thing to watch out for is the UFOs, they will fly randomly around your screen and drop new missiles down on your moon bases, shoot them down quickly, as they will make things very difficult when trying to conserve ammunition.
All in all, Lunar Command is rather nice game. Really worth to try.
