SimCity Classic

Game Review 1 (written by Dc007) Added on: 09/22/2006
This game is a standing stone to all god type games with only Populous braking from the mould. And although this game is now weak in graphics and options that you find in modern day version of SimCity I would still rank this as one of the greatest designed games ever produced. It’s spawned millions of different types of games. This game I would give 8 out of 10 only failing in the graphical department and it’s mangled amass of options without resorting to a more fanciful interface of modern version.

Will wrights rise to fame and since he has never looked back.
My only gripe with these games is the introduction of disasters, as you can implement these when you see fit, rather than making a random problem much like Populous when your opponent fires you with an earthquake. This is all too simple in once you have achieved your utopia you then implement a monster to destroy it? But why? Why kill your beautiful society for the sake of a few dinosaurs?
And I think this is where the game does end as no matter how complex and ingenious this game is I still think your picking your nails waiting for things to happen. The truth is the new deluxe version is no different in

that respect.
The sound is as basic as one would expect from a simulator game. Bleep and chirps and the odd annoying siren.
Graphics are again nothing special and although one cannot expect a great game it didn't pass the graphical ingenuity found in games like populous and later power monger. Its top view style was basic and did the job, it just lacks that certain spark a better interface would have.
Game-play is where this game hits the chords the obsession in keeping your city free from crime and the tumultuous amount of graphs for a game of this time is exceptional and yes you do get satisfaction for creating your beautiful city. This game with a few others could be regarded as one of the greatest ideas of all time. And in a fair review would probably enter everyone’s top 50 for pure design alone. This game is class stuff and apart from its dated ideas I can only advice that you should download it today. Fabulous game and a worthy beginner to a colossal franchise.
Excellent and a worthy download!

Game Review 2 (written by Dbblsanta) Added on: 08/20/2006
SimCity Classic, the original game developed by Will Wright, has spawned many sequels over the years. Revolutionary for its time, it was one of the first games that did not have a set end to it. Where most games end in a final boss showdown, SimCity has no end goal. Although it doesn't boast incredible 3-D graphics or have complex sound effects, its basic interface is ideal for players new to the series, or for players wishing for a bit of old-school nostalgia.
The premise of the game is that you are the mayor of a city. You start out with a bare stretch of land, with lakes, rivers, and forests placed randomly by the game. Place residential zones for people to live, commercial zones for people to shop, and industrial zones for people to work. Power your city by building a power plant, and be sure to include police and fire stations, and plenty of parks. Let your Sims (the people who live in your city) get around by building roads and railroads. When you have the money, putting in a stadium will increase your popularity, and putting in an airport and seaport will raise your population.
Overall, SimCity Classic is a lot of fun. It is simple, yet addictive, and appeals to a wide variety of players. Playing SimCity Classic will allow you to graduate to SimCity 2000, which includes many more options, such as putting in a water system, zoning light and dense zones, putting in highways, among other things. After SimCity 2000, is SimCity 3000, then SimCity 4 (with its expansion pack, Rush Hour) which become more and more complex.
Some Hints and Tips: don't build roads, only build railroads. Your Sims will never complain about traffic if you do. Also, less is more when it comes to railroads. You have to pay to maintain your transportation system, so adding unnecessary roads will inflate how much you have to pay, and will be a waste of money.
If you're just starting out, click on "Disasters" at the top of the screen, then click "Disable," you will never have to worry about disasters now (remember to do this every time you start the game). You also don't have to put in fire stations now.
When placing Police Stations, click on the Map button (near the top of the screen, near the bulldozer, it looks like a brown splotch), then click on the icon with the gun on the new menu that shows up. Use the map to see where crime is the heaviest. Remember that the more police stations you have, the more you have to pay to fund them.
Power plants and industrial zones create a lot of pollution. Keep them away from your residential zones. Use the Map button to see where the most pollution is. Parks lower pollution.
The nuclear power plant emits less pollution then the coal power plant, but produces less electricity.

I used to spend hours building cities, and spent loads of time choosing just the right land, with plenty of lakes and rivers to build bridges. The residents keep demanding more amenities - it is a fun way to pass time.

It's a classic game from my youth days. Our entire class spent lots of hours playing it. We didn't like at all the disaster that could destroy our city.

When I had this game I was using a Mac. There was an expansion where you could change the style of the buildings to different periods in Earth's history. Of course, it was always fun having "Godzilla" rampaging through the city!
