SimFarm for Windows

Genre: Simulation    |     Year: 1993    |     Publisher: Mindscape    |     Developer: Maxis Software, Inc.
Game Review 1 (written by Firedawgst251) Added on: 08/13/2006
SimFarm is along the lines of its other counter-part games, Simcity and Simcity 2000. Only in Simfarm you are playing the game from a farmer’s point of view, in that you must plant and harvest crops as well as raise livestock. It presents many challenges to the gamer because what you produce has an impact on not only you but the town grows around your farm. The more productive you are with your farm the more the town grows and the more the town’s people praise you with additions to your farm.

Not only are you able to raise livestock and grow crops, but you are also able to fly crop dusters as well as purchase your own farm equipment in order for you to succeed in this game. The game may not seem that challenging at first because you are able to take loans from the bank, but if you take too much and pay it back they will take it back in other ways by foreclosing your farm and taking everything from you.
This game requires the gamer to be able to choose his or her own land and decide what they think will be the most profitable crop to grow or livestock to rise. Also if the gamer does

not wish to start from scratch the game does provide several remade farms that the gamer can choose to take over and run on there own, but this can be challenging as well because like in the Simcity games you never know when a disaster may strike, whether it be a Locust attack, tornado, or flood that wipes out you crop season.
This game is very entertaining as well as challenging for gamers of all ages. If you think that you have it in you to be a farmer then Simfarm will be right up your alley and you can see what it feels like to live out in the wide open country and run a farm of your own. Hopefully you will have a successful farm and not fall to bankruptcy and loose your farm. I think you will find that this game is along the lines of the other Sims games. All of the Sims are very entertaining but this one is in it own special class because it show how difficult it can be to be a farmer. So this game is worth playing!

Game Review 2 (written by Kpie06) Added on: 08/06/2006
I played SimFarm when it first came out. I bought it in a bundle of SimCity, SimFarm and SimFarm. SimFarm quickly became my favorite as it was a very fun and easy to use simulation game. The graphics were very good in it time and it’s a game that you could play without noticing all of the hours go by. It was an early simulation game created by Maxis so there is not a whole lot of interaction, as it was one of the first created, however, it does let you fully control your farm. You are in charge of not only growing the right crops for your soil, but making sure that they receive water, fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides and other additives to protect your crops from harm and increase growth potential to increase yields which make you more money.
You also have to maintain the equipment needed to plant and harvest your crops and upgrade as things get old. You must have storage space to hold your crops and sell them before they go bad. You can also invest in animals for your farm but you must be very careful of them. Animals require a lot of attention for mating and food and water. If they are not satisfied they can and will escape through your best fences and destroy everything in their path. You can also sell animals so it can be good to have a few that breed well for quick cash. Just as in SimCity you are able to connect your farm to surrounding towns to increase selling and trading options and to provide people as a means to visit your farm.
The game offers and extensive wealth of knowledge in its help menu. It explains everything you need to know about growing each plant; it lists what soil is best, its water needs and its susceptibilities to various threats and more! It list information about what each piece of farm equipment does and how long it should last. It also lists information about all of the animals, including life spans, food needs and gestation lengths.
SimFarm also has normal weather cycles to challenge all farmers and lets you choose where you build your farm. Depending on your motive you can choose what type of land you buy and where you are located! This is a perfect simulation game for anyone who loves them. Even though it’s a little old it is still a whole lot of fun!! Kudos to Maxis for being the pioneer of the best of the best simulation games.

I bought SimFarm when it came out 15 years ago, and just recently re-discovered it. It doesn't have the flashy graphics of newer games, but it's just as fun!

This game was awesome, I used to put my crops in with the animals. The best choice was always the county fair.

I loved this game! I was well on my way to becoming a multi-million dollar farmer. Then came the locusts! And seriously, I must have farmed on a burial ground because I swear I had a tornado roll through every two weeks!

Strangely addictive Sim-game, though it seems planting and growing strawberries is a foolproof method to make bank.

I have been searching for Simfarm for years! I played as a kid and I really do live on a farm, grew up, went to the city, but returned home to the farm, and guess what? The cows really do get out of the fence.

A very fun game. You can customze your crops. I recommend planting strawberries for quick cash, although you have to rotate them every few years to keep the soil from going bad.
