Game Review (written by Azileron) Added on: 09/06/2006
My first time playing “SimLife for Windows” was on a fairly bad computer. At the time, I was younger, and I was unable to appreciate the diverse options that one could choose in the game. Also, the game ran very slowly on my computer, so in the end, I decided that I didn’t like it. I put it away in a cupboard and I hadn’t looked at it for years. I turned to other games, slowly forgetting “SimLife for Windows”.
However, I now have a new computer and I decided to give it another go. I load it up, and I feel as though I’ve never played it before. It was a whole new experience for me, and I spent hours and hours on it. You can create

entirely new species of animals, cross-breeding zebras with mice and giraffes with sparrows. When I first played it, I skipped the tutorial, which is probably why I didn’t like the game. If you follow its easy steps, then you can appreciate the game properly. Some of the intuitive options included in the game are the ability to choose soil depth and temperature, which affects how your species adapt. The game is great for people interested in ecology and biology, as well as those who aren’t, as I still enjoy it thoroughly although I have little interest in these two fields of science.
But, in my opinion, “SimLife for Windows” can’t compete with today’s games. With the advancements in graphics, less people are playing the old classics. Of course, you may argue that yesterday’s games made up for what they lacked in visual appeal with gameplay, which is somewhat lacking in many of today’s games. I agree with this, but I still don’t find “SimLife for Windows” appealing enough (at least visually, it is top-grade in all other areas) to keep playing it.
“SimLife for Windows” is a great game for it’s time, but it can’t stand up to the new games of today’s computers. I’d give it an eight out of ten for it’s time, but if compared with other games of the computer industry that have much better graphics (which is a key component in gaming), “SimLife for Windows” would be lucky to get a three out of ten.
But if you still can find the time to play an old game such as “SimLife for Windows”, then by all means, do play it. You won’t regret the decision.

These evo-sims are cool to play with. Maxis simlife is indeed a pretty good one. That the game offers a wide variety of engineering possibilities makes this game worthwhile suggestion for anyone who likes to (over)-see evolution happening.

Great game, the idea of creating you own ecosystem is a very interesting one. Hopefully, someone will take up this idea and make a more recent game on this basis.

I like all the Sim games so far and this ones about animals so right there it's a big plus in my book. I also like playing with new creations.

It’s very good, I like the idea of developing your own type of animal. I like sim games but my favourites are ones that give you the opportunity to mess with life.
