Game Review (written by Triforceelf) Added on: 12/31/2006
Tank Commander is a fun little game that will have you coming back over and over again, at least until you have exploited all the glitches or gone totally crazy over the (very) hard parts. The graphics were ok for the time, but there is quite a bit of tearing. The game is divided into several different "Levels" that feature different types of terrain, and are very different from each other in gameplay. (Ex. Urban requires several "Defend the Hill" scenarios to win, while Dessert is essentially all "Kill it") For some reason, your progress in levels is saved on the Urban, Desert and pretty much all levels, except the Volcano Level Set.

This will drive you absolutely nuts, as the Volcano Level

has several secrets that are very hard to find and are totally necessary to completing the levels. There are a variety of power ups you can find, such as an A-10 warthog attack, that are amazing and cool and for which you first instinct will be to use them: Don’t. There are several levels they want you to race across and kill a certain thing before it gets to the other side of the map. If you try this unaided, YOU WILL DIE! Use the aerial and tactical help on these levels, otherwise prepare to lose over and over.
Short Level Synopsis:
Desert:
Probably the Easiest (and really the most straight forward as objectives go) level set Desert should be your first choice, as it is easiest and really the best intro to the game. There are (lots) of exploits you can do, as most of the objects are essentially "Kill this stuff, then get from point A to point B," and it is rather easy to by pass the gates that are the exits and explore the prerendered next level, a bit unpopulated.
Volcano:
What can I say, this one drove me crazy. There are several "Kill this thing that is like 500x faster than you before it gets to the other side" objectives, and at least for me it does not save your progress once you exit the game. Experts only.
Urban:
The one is unique, as you have to do selectively choose your targets for many missions. You defend your president, kill convoys and use night vision goggles. Moderately difficult.
As for the rest, you will have to figure it out yourself.
Final Word:
Tank Commander will keep you coming back, at least until you beat several levels. After a while it gets boring, but nothing lasts forever right?
