When I first played this game, I didn’t know what to expect of it. It seemed like an ordinary, pointless tennis game that someone had created in 5 minutes. But when I actually got into it, it was amazing and extremely addictive.
I know the graphics don’t seem to be quite impressing, but the gameplay itself stood out. In my opinion, I do not think that there is a computer, classic game that can be more competitive and addictive than this one. It is just absolutely intriguing throughout: when you serve, when you wait for your opponent’s response, when you make a response, and, if you’re good, when you win.
But it’s not just an ordinary tennis game, where these stages are repeated every point. No, it is quite the contrary actually. It involves strategic manipulation, where you have to take consideration of the opponent’s position, movement of direction, and abilities of his character into account, and give a response that will make it hard, difficult or impossible for him to react with a successive shot.
There are different techniques which can be applied: the normal shot (just a simple, plain old shot, that will guarantee that the ball will not go out, and also that the opponent will strike back), a spin shot (where your character is able to manipulate the opponent’s position against him, but spinning it on the
other side of the court, which will be a far distance from the enemy, and it will spin outwards, making it harder for the rival to respond), and the drop shot, where the ball is hit high into the air (which can be a problem because your rival can respond with a strong shot back). There are also strong and soft shots; another strategic technique which takes the position of the rival into account. When you win points, you build up momentum, and can offer strong, hard shots, which the rival will inevitably miss.
There are also different difficulties within the game; easy, medium and hard (as simple as that). If you feel challenged, and want to give it a go, you can opt for the hard option. But I warn you, it is very difficult; even I haven’t finished the game on hard mode! But I would recommend easy for beginners, and medium for amateurs, as with any game. You can also play in tournaments. Give it a go!
