Game Review (written by Kennynl) Added on: 11/13/2006
The first ever FIFA, what a game! Remember having this when I was only 7 years old, and I absolutely loved it!
Sure, comparing it to FIFA these days it doesn’t look much, looks pathetic actually, but at the time it was great!
It wasn't the easiest game I've ever played, suppose the fact that you couldn’t string three passes together didn’t help. The goalkeepers were pretty poor rite enough, they made David James look good (I know he’s not a terrible keeper but I just can’t stand him).

The goalkeepers were pretty poor rite enough, they made David James look good (I know he’s not a terrible keeper but I just can’t stand him). I remember whenever I went England that I used to imagine it was my dream team of my favourite players, you didn’t have real players names in this game you see. The goalkeeper was obviously

Schmeichel, at right back I had Lee Dixon and on the left I had Davie Robertson (Glasgow Rangers). At the heart of defence I had Steve Bruce and Richard Gough (Glasgow Rangers). Out on the right wing I had Andrei Kanchelskis, on the left was Ryan Giggs. I seem to remember the guy that played on the left was immense. In the centre of Midfield I had Roy Keane and Ian Durrant (Glasgow Rangers) and up front was Mark Hughes and Super Ally, Ally McCoist. On the bench I had the likes of Andy Goram, Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister, Peter Beardsley, Peter Huistra and Mark Hateley. Yeah I was quite a sad young boy.
I remember there were some strange nations in this game, nations that to this day I personally have never actually saw play a game of Football. Qatar and Iraq were two of those nations. If you went the likes of Brazil or Germany you would hammer these sides about 8-0 every single time, they weren't the most competitive. On the other hand though, I always found it very difficult to beat the likes of Brazil and Germany, if you went a team like England. Always found those sides rather annoying to come up against, or maybe it was just me and I was just rubbish at the game. I still have my Mega Drive with my Master System converter up in the loft actually, I think I'm gonna get it down and have a go tonight, see if I can beat those Germans! I'll need to come up with a new dream team though, think those players mentioned above are a little bit past it, apart from Ryan Giggs maybe.
I remember being quite disappointed that this was solely International Soccer, I always prefer clubs when it comes to football games but they weren't introduced until the following year, I think. I remember when they were introduced I thought to myself "this is it, this is my favourite games series", liked it even more than the Sonic games, and man I was a big Sonic fan. Even though we now had clubs, the gameplay in general wasn’t much different from International Soccer, in fact before Sony gave us the Playstation there was very little change in the games at all!
