The early eighties release of Galactic Gladiators saw the addition of an interesting, science fiction themed sports simulator to the growing stable of games for the first home computing systems. Released in 1982 by Strategic Simulations Inc (good old SSI), Galactic Gladiators is part sports game, part simulation, and part strategy. It plays from the top down perspective. While a bit cliché, Galactic Gladiators was certainly interesting in the day and still offers an incredible amount of value as an early pioneer of combination genre.

It is a tactical combat game that will see different aliens using a wide variety of weapons to face off against one another in mortal combat. There will be laser guns, melee weapons, hand to hand moves, and special powers for each alien race. The alien races are campy and very “seventies”. There are Viking warriors with horns growing out of their heads, slime devils and space mutants.
