Jack Nicklaus: Signature Edition is basically a beefed up version of Unlimited Golf and Course Design. The course design interface of Signature Edition is almost identical to Unlimited Golf and Course design, which shortens the learning curve of the editor considerably for those who have
played the predecessor. The major difference between the two games is very noticeable improvements in both graphics and sound. This instalment also features the option of playing courses that were designed with Unlimited Golf and Course Design. The terrain and graphics convert to the nicer look, but Signature Edition features a much more extensive colour palette that will not reflect if courses are ported in from UGCD. Although the terrain and course graphics are greatly improved, the graphics displaying the actual golfers remain somewhat pixilated and grainy. This is somewhat of a disappointment, but it is not a terrible detractor.
Jack Nicklaus: Signature Edition also offers a new tournament style of play. For users who are mainly looking to play golf instead of design courses, the game does come with three accurately designed courses: Lorimar Resort, Sherwood Country Club and English Tourn CC. All of these courses can be played against very good computer players. There are also countless websites where users can find courses designed by other gamers across the globe. These can be downloaded and played. This is a huge draw Jack Nicklaus: Signature Edition, which came out at the same time as some half dozen other golf games and course editors.
In all, Jack Nicklaus: Signature Edition is a decent golf playing game. It actually has much more merit as a course designer and editor, ranking among the best ever made on this front. As a sporting game for golf, there are many other games better than this. If you are interested in designing your own, realistic, fun and challenging courses, Jack Nicklaus: Signature Edition has all the features you could ever want…much improved from its predecessors. If you are looking more for an exciting round of golf, check out games such as Links 386 Pro and leave this one out of the download queue.
