The general twist to this version of Micro Machines is that it is all in 3D, instead of the 2D sprites of the last game.
This version offers plenty of racing modes for you. The best one is the one player championship, as you can unlock bonus cars depending on how well you do in the races. There is also a time trial mode where more cars can be unlocked.
It can take a VERY long time to unlock all of the cars! There are so many of them and the further you get into the game the harder it gets, so unlocking all of them is a very tough challenge.
There are also a lot of multi player options. Up to four players can play on one computer (make sure you have a few pads/joysticks though). However in a network more players can join in. There is a mode where you can gamble your unlocked extra cars in multi player races where the winner takes all.
There are also lots of tracks set in various locations like a science lab, garden and the beach to name a few. Most areas have around 4 different courses on them so there are quite a lot of tracks varying in difficulty. In the one player mode different tracks call for different cars, highlights being the tank which can fire and destroy other tanks briefly and the speed boat for use on the
water pond levels.
Like before, there are many different characters to choose from. As for the controls, the keyboard is responsive enough. But if you intend to play this game with more than 2 players on one machine, I suggest you get a couple of pads straight away as sharing a keyboard with 3 or even 4 other people is next to impossible, trust me I've tried.
The PC version is a great network racing game, but is a lot of fun in the one player mode and can take up a lot of your time trying to unlock the hidden cars. The best Micro Machines game on the PC.
Take yourself back to a simpler time with weird little cars.
