As a golf player for a few years at the time I never considered playing a golf game on my Amiga until someone said to me "try this". After a few tries I was hooked. With bright graphics and easy to use menus I was instantly impressed. For me shooting good rounds and having plenty of shots to play in real life was what golf was about, so playing PGA golf was about as close as you could get for realism.
Choosing from the different gameplay options you could start a practice round on many different courses or go straight into a tournament.

Choosing from the different gameplay options you could start a practice round on many different courses or go straight into a tournament. With over 60 pro's to play against it made for quite a challenge. Hitting the ball was made up of a three
click system. Once to start your backswing, second to gauge the power required and finally the accuracy click. Getting the power right was all good and well, but as soon as you were on the backswing of the shot meter you had to get it spot on or pay the price of hooking or slicing the ball. With constantly changing winds to contend it made for quite a challenge.
In tournament mode you also had the added bonus of all your scores and shots recorded in a statistic leader board which was added to money earned in tournaments as well. This was a good incentive to really get involved in trying to play better and better every round. It was also a good chance to play a few friendly games with your friends for a little wager, I mean come on everyone wants to show whose best don’t they!
The music in PGA golf was very good too, easy on the ears which made it even more enjoyable. Other interesting things that PGA golf had was a fly by hole preview to help you decide how to set up your hole for a better result, also in addition there was a mapped putting view too, which enabled better reading of the greens. With a ball that appeared in the centre of the screen before each shot to enable you to see the lie of the ball it also showed you where you could hit the ball to get better results. Moving the pointer up and down gave you the option of topping or getting right under the ball for more height. Left or right and you could shape the ball according to where you needed to play it (handy for going round tree's etc).
All in all PGA golf is one of the best golf sims out there. So get your hands on this classic and start playing.
