Sensible Soccer 98

Genre: Sports    |     Year: 1997    |     Publisher: GT Interactive    |     Developer: Sensible Software
Game Review 1 (written by Penguin9) Added on: 10/17/2006
Sensible Soccer 98 is an absolute classic game of the sport simulation genre. Playing with an enormous database of teams based both on reality and fantasy the gameplay, though rather slow and perhaps a bit lame by today’s modern hi-tech standards is both frantic and enjoyable.
On its debut in the year 1997 the game Sensible Soccer 98 introduced the world to a wonderland of two dimensional interactive gameplay on a veritable field of dreams that ended up dominating the gameplay landscape for soccer geeks and amateur game players alike.
Sensible Soccer 98 was a veritable field of dreams for the soccer purists who relished the ability to play either as Man United or Leyton Orient with a realistic sense of ability whilst game players enjoyed the solid graphics, which today are crap and blocky, smooth engine and sound effects and dynamic and fast paced gameplay.
In my own Sensible Soccer 98 experience playing as the god almighty heroes Aston Villa I frequently dominated the international competition often netting more than five hundred goals a season and conceding often next to none, mainly because I am such a legend and an absolute hero of the modern age, though lesser men and women to myself often struggled with the intricate controls of what is perhaps

one of the most challenging soccer experiences of the twentieth century. In a game against Manchester United for instance I was able to net over a hundred and eighty times, proving my ultimate superiority over the lesser lights of twentieth century gaming. How good am I !!!! - dealing with this mortals.
Sensible Soccer 98 is however not a game for all individuals. The blocky graphics and two dimensional gameplay suffer greatly in the modern age, the sound fx squeak badly and gigantic gremlins that jump out of the screen may eat you alive in a bloodcurdling horror. Epileptics may also suffer enormous fits from the strobe lighting that dominates the screen upon scoring ten thousand goals for the season.
Ultimately however Sensible Soccer 98 is a pleasant and pleasurable gaming experience that should be enjoyed by everyone in every age group whether they are a professional amateur or only a sad and miserable individual who has never before heard or experienced the beautiful game that is soccer.

Game Review 2 (written by Thunderbirdtwo) Added on: 09/07/2006
Well, what can I say, I love this game. I play it a lot and I think that its features are fantastic. For a game made such a long time ago, the graphics are pretty top-notch, with shadows and everything.
The team names are perfect and up-to-date with the season it's meant to be, with all the players also up-to-date. The attributes are cool, the rating of the players is very easy to understand and I like the way you can massacre poor teams twenty goals to nil.
The features on the game are great; you have a decent selection of what to choose from, you can play friendly matches, custom tournaments, DIY tournaments and a career. I used to do a career all the time, playing all my matches against the computer, but I find losing hard to take, so I swapped.
Another good thing with this is that you can control more than one team at a time and be both sides on the pitch, which makes losing impossible. Well, at least makes me getting annoyed at losing impossible. With this, I liked creating my own tournaments such as the World Cup or Champions Cup, seeing who will be the eventual winner. Of course, it was always a world class team like Brazil.
