This game is the best football game ever. Builds on the earlier 92/92 Sensible Soccer games with an extensive number of leagues and competitions to compete in, not unlike those found in Championship Manager games (the originals before they fell out with Sports Interactive).
The fact this has all the correct player names in such a wide range of leagues is astonishing, roll back to the glory days when Ferdinand, Shearer and Cantona were the finest strikers in England. The controls are simple, you only need one button, anyone can easily pick it up and play unlike the dull, tutorials required to learn to play modern Fifa or PES games.
However despite this approach games end up realistic in terms of final scores, unlike the earlier games where it was possible to beat Germany as San Marino 9-0.
Now you will find that when two equally matched teams play generally the scores will not be unrealistic to what you could expect even in modern times.
The best thing about this game is the game-play, you don’t even notice the graphics one bit, the game-play and the experience is amazing, play this then go play your PES 5,6, 7 whatever number they are up to and you realize that football games have gone wrong badly somewhere over the years. This game represents the peak of the football game genre. Which is very sad when you
play Sensible Soccer 2006, you are really playing a totally inferior game to this ten year old + beast.
The downside is that the AI in terms of referee decisions over whether to book or send off a player is actually slightly worse than those find in Sensible Soccer v1.1 and the International Edition, where you could expect the last man to be sent off if the opposing player was brought down. However this weakness is easily forgiven. As for Jonathan Pearce providing the commentary, well its ok, in fact it’s a lot better than his modern commentary on Match of the Day, but then again that doesn’t much. At least here he doesn’t preach his views at every chance.
So if you ask me if it’s worth downloading well, yeah, I would say: “Sure it’s worth!”
