Shane Warne Cricket is very similar to Brian Lara Cricket on the sega mega drive. Those of you who have played it will enjoy this greatly as it is basically an updated version of an old classic.
The game is armed with both national and county squads allowing the player freedom to be whomever they like. The game also boasts certain new features such as computer generated totals to allow solely batting and also the new "six" hit button which allows the player to slog out to their hearts content.
The game itself has very basic graphics, although they are an early 3D style. The gameplay is fairly basic too making it easy to play for newcomers but has enough lastability to keep all players coming back for more even after they feel they have maybe mastered the art of Shane Warne Cricket.
First of all new players will be very frustrated as taking wickets can be a chore as the computer seems to endlessly drive you to the fence. Manual fielding is unbelievably hard and until you are experienced I would strongly advise against you trying it. You are suddenly in control of a fielder with an arrow indicating where the ball is. Locating the ball is very difficult and making catches is nigh on
impossible
The game is equipped with three types of bowlers, swing spin and fast and rely on your ability to time the button press to maximize the effect of each type of bowling. The batting is similar relying heavily on the ability of the player to time their shots and respond to the bowling of the computer, very much similar to the real life game of cricket.
The game has a number of players from the era to choose from for each country allowing the player to customize his or her own team each game and use different batsmen at different batting positions until they establish there own favorite line-ups.
The game is equipped with enough teams of varying ability to allow good experienced players to challenge themselves by being one of the less able sides.
The game also allows the player to be a "captain" too as they are in full control of the field positions be it defensive or attacking fields and choosing whether to bowl round the wicket or over the wicket.
Overall the game, despite being dated and slightly simplistic is thoroughly entertaining and battling to beat the Aussies at cricket never ceases to cause enjoyment.
