Wow this takes me back to the 90’s and the music was more like from the 80’s. Basic graphics, but there is a good choice of aircraft (10 planes/jets) and fun old school game play. There is a good range of sites with 10 race circuits with the option to race in championship mode or choose individual races. You get to fly from the Amazon rainforest to the Norwegian Fjords and each craft has a range of weapons to take on opponents.
Some jets are faster than others so it is best to try out a few individually before starting at championship campaign.
This game also reminds me of when I use to play the DOS game Lander, which I have to say I preferred. Although there is some variety within the game it does get a little tedious after a while but it is a good game for a laugh or with a few mates playing the old classics. I don’t know who they got to do the voice over but the guy’s voice also is annoying and it may be better playing with the sound off! For some reason the background music it reminded me of Knight Rider but I had to mute the dude’s

voice. Shooting the opponents was particularly fun and you have a few gauges telling you your selected weapons ammo level, as well as a gauges showing your current level of damage to engine and bodywork etc (mind those sharp turns & sharp shooters!).
Graphics wise not too shabby, and back then are what I would have classed as 3D! It plays in split screen as a two player so you can take on the old man like you did when you were a kid, that if yours or his arthritis hasn’t set in too bad! The aircraft responds quickly to both banking turns and changes in altitude and you’ve also got a speed count in the top corner as well as your current race position in the opposite corner. There is also a cool little circuit map below your speed gauge which is helpful when racing, so you get keep an eye on your position and if you or your opponents are gaining. Your also have a target for shooting which lights up when locked on to give your that Top Gun 80’s hotshot feel. Oh, and you also have a few pilots to choose from for the boys and girls and I had some fun trying to beat my sister, but failed. If your into your old school race games then this is a classic, although I have to admit I prefer a bit more to games to keep my attention for longer than an hour.
All in all, it is a great little game for its era and well worth looking at for a trip down memory lane or a bit of fun on a rainy day.

Played this game till 3 in the morning way too many times! Got to the point where I could fly better when I got hit with the disrupter than normal flying.

"Slade? I thought he was dead!" haha cheasy lines like that make this a great game! Tricky to get the hang of, but very satisfying when you have mastered it. The A.I. are good competition, not too hard, not too easy, just right. Good choice of weapons eg. the disrupter (I think it was called) that reverses the controls of the person you shoot, with a bit of practice you learn to fly with reversed controls!

I did not think this game was still around. It is a really good game considering how old it is. Going to try to run it on windows 7. Will see

Slipstream is a pretty good game for the type of computer it required. But since the game was designed for old graphics adapters, the graphics were really crappy and the MIDI playback was kinda crappy especailly on newer computers which may not have the required hardware. Other then that, Slipstream had really good gameplay. I liked it when you could shoot down other peoples planes :P

People that downloaded Slipstream 5000 also downloaded the following games:

True Love Paradise Heights
Hugo House of Horrors Super Solvers: Operation Neptune
Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom Privateer 2: The Darkening
