Game Review (written by Martybhoy11) Added on: 10/22/2010
There were many versions of this game throughout the seasons 97 - 98, 98 - 99, 99 - 00, etc, but in my opinion this one was the best. Back in the days of George Weah, Zvonomir Boban, Eric Cantona, Garry Pallister, Edgar Davids and a very young Alessandro Del Piero this game by Eidos was released.
I got this game as a demo first and nagged and nagged till my mum bought the full version for me. It provided me with many nights of enjoyment up to all hours trying to win the famous Champions League trophy telling myself one more game before I go to bed.

The 96 / 97 Champions League will be forever remembered for being Borussia Dortmund's first ever win in the competition led by legendary manager Ottmar Hitzfeld and featuring players such as Paul Lambert, Juergen Kohler, Andreas Moller, Stefan Klos, Lars Ricken, Karl Heinz Reidle and European Footballer of the Year Matthais Sammer leading the team to glory. They defeated strong favourites Juventus in the final held in Munich, avenging them for beating them in the 1993 UEFA Cup Final 6-1 on aggregate. The Juventus team featured players such as Zinedine Zidane, Christian Vieri and Alen Boksic.
All in all, if you can remember this era in the great game and appreciate the players on show in this classic video game it will definitely be worth downloading for this

The simplicity of the game is what makes it loveable, none of the complicated controls which are commonplace in today’s footballing market.
In summary UEFA Champions League 1996 - 97 is an easy game to play and will give you hours of enjoyment none more so if you can remember and appreciate the heroes of the era. I really can't say enough about the game and hope you have as much fun playing it as I did. I have many good memories of this game, my bedroom being crammed full of friends playing it for hours and playing our own little champions league tournaments. Can't wait to invite my friends over to relive old memories!!! I rate this game so highly that I would say it’s up there with sensible soccer as one of the all time great soccer simulation games. I urge you to download it and try it out for yourselves. One of the best football games ever made.

I remember playing this game a bit when I was younger. I think it was one of my brother's hand me downs and the first soccer (football) games I played. This was one of those games I would binge on and stay up all night to play a season. It was fun 'till you found the 'cheat' move and it got too easy. The gameplay is typically old school and a little chunky compared to some of the newer games. The graphics are what you would expect from this era It's refreshing though to not have to memorize a hundred buttons. Just the basics is nice sometimes

People that downloaded Uefa Champions League 1996-97 also downloaded the following games:

UEFA Champions League 1998-99 Sensible World of Soccer
Wizkid Paratrooper
UEFA Euro 96 England Actua Soccer 3
