Night after night, I would jump barrels, fight fat men, try a 2 and a half gainer, ride the bull and wait with my heart filled with the thrill of competition to hear the EPYX theme song play proudly while my brother just shook his head.
All of the events are here! Sumo, caber toss, barrel jumping, and cliff diving. You even get a little bit of info at the beginning of each game on the history of the sport. My favorite will always be weight lifting.
Clean and jerk and snatch are fully recreated in 4 of the best pastel colors available. Just pile on the weight, get your grip set, and give it the old heave and ho.
The controls are a little rough without a joystick (you get the option to have one or try it with just the keyboard), but the arrow keys, shift keys, and enter key will help you get around. There were a few times when I was playing that the sound would go and you'd have to reboot the emulator. I am playing it on an old Mac with little to no horsepower. On a decent machine, there should be no problems.
There are some pretty cool things that you can find
in the middle of this game. If you hold your weight too long in the snatch, you'll fall through the floor. Try jumping and landing before you even get to the barrels in barrel jump and keep and eye on your character's head. Remember that the water is shallow during cliff diving, and a belly flop won't get you anything except a red chest and a fault. But if you’re playing by yourself, or with someone who is at least as bad as you, and you can't hit a single slalom on the way down the hill, you can still stand proud and listen to your anthem.
