I remember the first time I played Capture the Flag in early 90's. My dad and I would play for hours upon hours.
The gameplay is incredible. Replay value is awesome. The people who are little more than a few hundred pixels run around a massive field with different types of terrain such as open field, grass, trees, rocks, road, etc. You simply look for the opponent’s flag which is being guarded by a few of their own. When you find an opponent on your side of the map you can attack them and start a fight, if you win they are sent to their side and can restart a few turns.
If you lose, however, you will be paralyzed for a little bit with a penalty for losing.
The flag starting position is random on the field, so you never know where you will be. Once when I was playing against my dad his flag was little more than a turn and a half away from the center line, where you start.
The game designers came up with generic names for each of the players like Abe, Ben, Carl, etc. Every player has a name that begins with the letter in the alphabet according to how good the player is. So, for example, Abe is the best player for the red team. There is the red team and the blue team.
Each team can have all or none guard the flag it is all up to the player playing. However, each player is good at a specific thing, so if they are good at seeking the flag then they usually aren’t too good for protecting the flag, and the game sets it up so that they are starting in the area that is best suited for them.
It is a turn based game allowing you to move all of your players their max distance they can travel or skip their turn completely. Once you spot the flag there is a little sound and then a pause, then you may continue on with your turn. Each type of terrain has its own special movement costs and you can really go about the game however you want in order to give yourself the best chances in order to capture the flag of your opponent.
I would recommend this game for anyone who wants to play something for a few hours. It has a wonderful replay value and is a great game for a few friends to get together and take turns playing. We would always play whenever we had a family get-together. You just sit down, take your turn, then a black screen comes up and you get the next player and they take their turn, it really inst too exciting in any other way.
It is a wonderful fun game for everyone in the family. Once the game is over you, get a score and with that score you could possibly make the hall of fame and you can gloat to everyone else that you beat them horribly and they didn’t beat you, but be careful since the flag position is random, you could get beat pretty badly any time.
