At the start of the game you will only have control over one province of France. From this place you will work your way into the other provinces where you will build castles and try to manage the inhabitants. Building castles is one of the most entertaining features of the game. You are given options regarding the look of your castle.
You need to explore,
build and manage your territories. You will also need to build a strong military to be able to defend your areas and to scout around, attack and expand your control over the other provinces.
Like other RPG, you will be in charge of all your territories including your Kingdom’s resources. You need to make sure that production can sustain the needs of your Kingdom’s inhabitants. There should be enough funds to support your soldiers. And you also need to have enough gold to stay in the good graces of the pope.
The micromanagement in the game is better than the combat system. You can have more fun with managing your territories and your economy than engaging in battles. If you engage in battles, all you need to do is to order your troops to destroy your opponent or to retreat. When you are on the offensive, you actually get to choose where the battle should take place which gives you a definite advantage.
The graphics of the game are good and colorful. They are interesting when it comes to the part that you have to build castles but there’s really nothing much to see during the battle sequences. The music adds to the whole atmosphere of the game. The game was set in the Middle Ages and the music totally brings you to that period in time.
This is an enjoyable game that is really worth your time and your hard disk space. It is a classic that is fun despite the lack of flashy graphics and animation.
