The game Castles 2: Siege and Conquest takes place in the year 1311. The King of France just died and because King Charles didn’t have any heir it is up to you to take control of as much of France. If you manage the Kingdom properly and the Pope gives you the blessing, then you will become the King of France.
At the start of the game you will only have control over one province of France. From this place you will work your way into the other provinces where you will build castles and try to manage the inhabitants.

At the start of the game you will only have control over one province of France. From this place you will work your way into the other provinces where you will build castles and try to manage the inhabitants. Building castles is one of the most entertaining features of the game. You are given options regarding the look of your castle.
You need to explore,

build and manage your territories. You will also need to build a strong military to be able to defend your areas and to scout around, attack and expand your control over the other provinces.
Like other RPG, you will be in charge of all your territories including your Kingdom’s resources. You need to make sure that production can sustain the needs of your Kingdom’s inhabitants. There should be enough funds to support your soldiers. And you also need to have enough gold to stay in the good graces of the pope.
The micromanagement in the game is better than the combat system. You can have more fun with managing your territories and your economy than engaging in battles. If you engage in battles, all you need to do is to order your troops to destroy your opponent or to retreat. When you are on the offensive, you actually get to choose where the battle should take place which gives you a definite advantage.
The graphics of the game are good and colorful. They are interesting when it comes to the part that you have to build castles but there’s really nothing much to see during the battle sequences. The music adds to the whole atmosphere of the game. The game was set in the Middle Ages and the music totally brings you to that period in time.
This is an enjoyable game that is really worth your time and your hard disk space. It is a classic that is fun despite the lack of flashy graphics and animation.

Cool old school game. Not great graphics or battles. This game does let you design your own custom castles. Ironically enough you can also win the game by defeating all of the Pope's forces and forcing him to recognize you as the one true king.

I love this game. Could never get very far in it though. Eventually over run by the invading hordes and could never rebuild the damage they did to the castle fast enough

I used to play this game when I was ten! You get to design your castles from the moat up, decide what needs to be gathered on your lands, forge alliances with some lords and declare war on others. They have a real time battle in which you get to decide the terrain, (which can be very helpful as certain units are much more effective in different types of terrain).
