Colonization

Game Review (written by Billybob1009821) Added on: 08/31/2006
Probably one of the most boring games you'll ever come across, but the most exciting as well. You can choose to be America, Canadian, or Spanish. The end result is you running away from your father country (Britain, France, and Spain) and taking over land all the way to the west coast. Indians will either help you out, or hurt you randomly; you can also choose to take supplies forcefully from them. In the individual villages that you make, you can choose a specialist to work a certain job, or you can create a specialist (either from the father country, or from an Indian tribe who specializes in that particular activity).

The game can go into many different directions. It’s tough to make relations with the tribes

and/or the other European counter parts. The government changes your taxes quite a bit and continuously raises them until you lash out (Boston tea party type of idea) and begin the revolution against your father country, or mother land, which ever you prefer. I recommend making (or at least trying to) friends with everyone. That of course goes along with the fact that you're probably new at this game. If you're a veteran then you'll probably be able to handle this game a lot better than I ever could, or will.
Just keep in mind that you'll need a lot of farmers in this game, the more people you have in a town, the more food you'll be spending just to keep them alive (even though I'm sure people in India wouldn't need to eat that much). While you play though, you'll realize that if this game were made more recently (or someone re-made it) then this game would be around 100 times better. The game that screams at you when you're playing colonization would definitely have to be the entire Civilization series by Sid Meier. The concepts of each game are almost completely different, but the thought behind the unit movement, relationships, expansion, domination, and even a slight hint of the technology. The main reason I really enjoyed this game, was because it was so entertaining to me, I enjoy strategies.
All in all, it's a pretty good game if you're into it. It would be worth your time.

Colonization was one of the first computer games I owned. I loved it then, and I still like it now. The combination of nation building and conquest make it a very fun game to play.

While not as open and flexible as Civilization, Colonization still has a good variety of gameplay and requires planning ahead if you hope to have a chance of winning.

I remember spending hours with this game and thought it was amazing. It is one of the best games for the commodore 64 computer.

We all know Sid Mier for his amazing games. This game is no different. Similar to Civilization with one major twist, the point is to break away from your Father Country rather than dominating every country in the game. To do this its all about resource creation and trading. From Cigars to Wine you name it. The variety of military units is very limited if my memory serves me correct 2-3. Other than the different cargo ships which can haul different capacities of resources. But like Civilization you will need to micro-manage the resources you create and choose which resource you want to supply for the largest cash in order to benefit. There are also many assorted Indian Tribes that you can build relationships with or pillage to the ground all to your choosing. The gameplay is godly for those of you like myself are not to thrilled about eye candy.

This game was my early entry into the whole civilization genre. I loved the simplicity and depth of the game. A real classic.

This is a great game. You can do almost anything. Run a colonial empire, be a national hero or just pillage and ravage the New World. I recommend it.

It is a remarkable game. One of the best I have ever played. The concept of discovery and conquest and to step in the footsteps of the founding fathers is very cool

This is a fantastic game, I actually prefer it to the later civilisations. The trading and setting up of new cities is the most satisfying part of this game. The more you sell of an item, the cheaper it gets

I love this game. If you're not into strategy and planning type games, it not for you, but for those of us who are, IT ROCKS!

I first played this game on my school's computer, I bought newer versions of it since. It never got old for me. I have played it for years. It is one of the best.

If you like Civ, or other Sid Mire games you should check this one out. Build cities, trade with indians and old Europe, then try and gain independence! I have enjoyed the game a lot.
