Game Review (written by Mikist84) Added on: 03/22/2008
This game is really awesome! The Global Defense Initiative (GDI) is at war with an organized terrorist group called the Brotherhood of Nod. Nod's main area of rule is in Africa while the Global Defense Initiative is mostly America and are fighting for power in Eurasia. I would suggest this game to anyone if they have not played it already. The movie scenes in between game levels are a bit cheesy but great. They pull you into the game and make you really feel like you’re a part of the command and conquer world.

You play as a commander of either groups the good or the bad. You receive orders from someone of higher rank and basically have to go out and do what they

tell you. That’s where your missions come from. My girlfriend, who does not really play games, even liked this game. The game play is really simple and picking it up without a manual is not a problem like with other games. The levels are great except for ones where you can not build a base and have to just deal with having a small force for infiltrating a base. Some of the units are a bit similar but that changes when you get vehicles for the most part. Neither side really has a huge advantage over the other. GDI has mammoth tanks that really pack a wallop but to equal that out Nod has a great defense with their obelisk of light.
The game length is perfect, it is about 12 missions each unless you count the ones where you only receive a small tactical force to complete your mission. My main complaint is there are no naval units and no use for the air units. If you try to use the orcas (which are the attack helicopters) you will get shot down so quick you will wonder why you bothered wasting your money. Tanks are the way to go, I love the way the flame tank just lays waste to infantry and if you’re about to lose a flame tank just direct straight into your enemy's main force. I have had the flame tank blown up in the middle of my army too many times and lost people because of it. The music is cool and you can even pick what music gets played. It’s a bit like techno though. This was the first strategy game I ever played and I still love playing it even after playing their sequels and other great games. This one is timeless.

Classic strategy. First and best! Command & Conquer is one of the finest, most brilliantly-designed computer games I have ever seen. Focusing on the global conflict between the fictional Global Defense Initiative (read "NATO") and Brotherhood of Nod organizations, Command & Conquer puts the player in complete charge of fast-paced, squad-level military operations utilizing a wide variety of troops, ground vehicles, base installations, air strikes, and production facilities. Throwing in just enough full-motion video to build the proper mindset between scenarios, C&C's main hook is its battlefield action: real-time, command-based, and simultaneous. Thus, you may send a squad of grenadiers to take out an enemy airfield to stop the influx of reinforcements, and suddenly realize that as you've been doing this, bazookamen have started bashing your one production facility. Of course rerouting a group of tanks to deal with the bazooka menace turns out to be exactly what the enemy wanted you to do, and as 20 minigunners close on your undefended HQ, you anxiously count the seconds to the next friendly air strike that'll make everything nice again. The tension produced by so many multiple layers of real-time interaction is what computer gamers live for, and a number of different high-energy soundtracks keep adrenaline levels maxed out. Playing the entire conflict in the role of the other side makes for twice the gameplay value.
