Game Review (written by Sanotra) Added on: 04/15/2007
Command HQ was a very interesting strategic game that came out in 1991. It's graphics are ok, that is, if you don't mind staring at a two dimensional image for a few hours. It's game play is Real time, and you have an option of playing in four different time periods. 1918, 1942, 1986, and 2023. You can play as 1 of 2 teams, that is the Axis powers, or the Allied powers.
There are some up and downs to this game. One of the bright factors is, that this game spawned ideas that probably lead to the development of games such as Command and Conquer, or Civilization.
You play on a world map and try to take control of the world by pounding your enemies into the ground. You start with just 1 city, or in some cases many, and you have to expand to get a good hold on the world. There is only 1 enemy you have to kill, and you can either liberate cities by having military control there, or you can bribe the city into joining your team.
Things remain relatively simple. You have to keep your oil in high amounts in order to keep your units moving, but resource production happens by itself and all you need to do is to make sure you have enough resource producers. Since everything goes on in

real time, you have to watch your back closely when you go on the offensive. If you do get bored with the supplied scenarios, you do have an editor which allows you to make your own. One major thing that was a disappointment for me was that there was just too few units.
The level of depth and the amount of units you can choose from are dependent upon what age you are in. For example: There are a few Unit types in 1918 such as troops, and battleships. But in 1986 you can get satellites and reveal enemy positions using radar. There are a few bugs and glitches within the game, and trying to find a compatible computer may be a bother as well. One glitch is the fact that sometimes your units won't listen to orders, but you can fix that by just barking orders.
All in all it was a pretty good game, one that paved the way for strategy games to come. I enjoyed it, even with its few flaws. If you’re up for an old school RTS then this game is sure to bring you some enjoyment.

Command HQ is a great game. I have played this game since it came out almost 20 years ago, and still enjoy it. It is especially fun when you are playing against a live opponent.

Classic strategy game-if you are ever in a scenario in which you are forced to vacate the Middle East and retreat to North America, deploy a submarine net until you can build your forces up-the Axis will send waves of troops and tanks across and your subs will rack up easy kills.

Best game I have found, win the war from both sides if you can. Follows history fairly close. You need to be patient but don't let the computer cheat you. Slow the game down when in battles.

This was a great game. It is the closest thing I have found to computerized the Axis and Allies board game. My only regret is that once I suffered the consequences of low oil reserves, I realized I could cripple the enemy with oil every time. After that I had to leave the enemy enough oil to make the game fun. I once won a game in a super blitzkreig by placing minimal infantry in Europe and loading up armor in Jeruselam with sme air support. I ran in and captured all the mideast oil and then straight up to Moscow. The Russians could only wave as I thundered by. This is a great game I would love to give my son to learn the basics.

This was one of the few TRUE strategy games ever produced. It wasn't big on the hack and slash with blood and gore graphics but it was a game that really made you think, plan and improvise. I really wished this game was updated and made for one of the PlayStation or XBox platforms. A really awesome game.

It might just be me but I've never played a C&C game that I did not enjoy and this HQ is no exception. Any strategy game lover will get sucked into this game.
