Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 02/13/2008
Conquest of the New World is an enhanced version of the original colonization game Conquest of the New World. The game will have you controlling one of six nations. You will compete against the other nations as you try to conquer a continent. You can either play the part of the Frech, the Dutch, Spanish, the Portuguese or Natives of the continent.
The game is turn-based and you will go against enemy troops and try to kill them or capture their flags as you expand your colony.
At the start of the game, you will find your self landing on a piece of land. You will have to explore the land and build your colony. As you discover different types of land formations such as valleys and mountains, you can name these mountains and gain credit for discovering them.
The game gas amazing graphics and the landscapes are done with such great details. The interface is easily manageable and it’s easy to play and control the game. When you build your colony, there will be a Colony Centre. Around this colony centre, you can build all the other buildings that you need to maintain the colony. You need to mine gold, metal and other gems to gain resources

for your colony. The whole idea of the game is to find a settlement area where you can get these resources as well as grow crops. The area should also be conducive to expanding your colony. If you do things right, not only will your colony grow in terms of the inhabitants but your economy will also grow so that it will be able to support expansions. You will have the opportunity to build farms, houses, churches and other infrastructures that are needed to ensure the success of the colony.
An essential part of the game is still to create a military force and to ensure that the military force is able to protect your colony. The military forces will also be the main driving force behind your colony’s expansion. The battles brought forth by your expansion efforts are done in a board with grids. This is where the strategy part of the game comes in. You need to make sure you are making the right moves in terms of toppling over your enemy forces.
Aside from engaging in battles, you can also form trade alliances which can be helpful to your colony’s economy. The game has enough elements to keep even the most experienced gamers interested for a long time.

I first brought it in '96 and played it non stop for ages. Now I am addicted again. An awesome game, which still looks good and will keep you entertained for years!

I have been looking for this game for years (either to download or even in stores). It was one of my favourite games from my childhood, especially multiplayer. One of the greatest aspects of the game, which was such a small part of it, was the naming of geographical landmarks - mountain ranges, plains, etc. For some reason I always like that, and the points it gave you. Combat is simple, yet entertaining. The ultimate challenge being when you decide to declare independence from your mother country. The army they send to fight you is ridiculous, but so much fun. I highly recommend this game to anyone with a love for the colonial era.

Awesome game. The combat system is the best part of the game. Leaders gain experience points that allow them to have more units or use more attacks each turn. The battlefield is a 3x3 grid that uses infantry, calvary, and artillery.

This game is a lot of fun because it involves city development, exploration, trade, and best of all, strategic fighting.

I think it's one of the best games of the old days. I searched a long time for it! The graphic are not the best, but I think you will have fun with it.
