Game Review (written by Dnr26) Added on: 02/13/2007
The first time I played this game I must have nearly lost a week of my life.

It’s a good WW2 turn based strategic level game that also comes with a built in micro-miniatures part if you actually want to command the battles personally. You can control either the Axis or the Allies; the amount of troop types you can control are very broad. These are just a few of the units you can use: infantry, tanks, artillery, engineers and there are also different types of aircraft.
You also have Para units that you can airdrop, which is a nice little touch, while your engineer can lay mine fields create airfields and repair ports ect.

With this game you can just play it in the strategic level and let the computer fight the miniature battles for you which is one of the best ways to play. This is because having to constantly stop the battles and issue orders to each unit during the battle mode gets tedious. You just want to develop your strategy, present it, and see if you are a military genius or not. Don’t get me wrong... these battle modes are fun but just take too long for my liking. As you

have to issue orders to each tank and gun to get them to fire at specific targets, a small battle can take ages.

The fun part for me is the way you can send in you army consisting of a variety of units in to battle, and these can then be supported by aircraft and even naval bombardments. There are also many factors that can be taken in to consideration when fighting the battles. Some factors include taking into account the number of troops available to fortify their position; how much they have moved in the past 24 hours (if they are well-rested or fatigued); and if you have the supply lines turned secured (your troops will fight poorly if not supplied). The weather also has an effect in the game, slowing down movement of troops, and also stopping your naval units from bringing your troops from the UK if you play the allies.

Another very enjoyable and notable part of the game has to be the in game editor which allows you to change what units you have to fight the war; it takes a little bit of time but allows you to see what might have happened if the Germans had not invaded Russia (if you can be bothered to research and input the extra units). The only problem is that you can still only use the European map as there are no others but still this is very fun and allows a lot more scope to the game.

So if you enjoy the old fashioned turn based games give it a go. It's nice and simple if you have it at easy setting so even people that haven't played this type of game before should be able to pick it up and play after getting used to the game interface.
