Dark Legions is a great old game I used to play online and offline with my cousin in the past. It is similar to chess and archon only better. In chess-like games you are stuck with certain pieces to use and where to place them on a flat board. With Dark Legions, you can choose all your attack figures, where they appear on your side of the board, and use strategies including illusions, on board attacks, fight screen attacks, and more. For example, Ogres can turn into a stone on the board and appear harmless.

One character can move on the board invisibly, but it is very easy to kill.
Shape shifters
are great as intimidation of your opponent's pieces. Vampires slowly lose life, but they survive by sucking life from other characters in the fight screen. You have to assemble a good "team" of pieces that you feel you can use strategies to find the enemies "king" piece which is a normal character that has power-ups that make it more difficult to destroy. If you play on one computer you should determine whether or not to use sounds on during board play because your opponent will know by sound effects what characters you are using. If you play over the Internet of course this point is not necessary since you will be on two separate computers.
Also for fun you can choose to limit which powerful characters to use that way you can come up with new strategies every time you assemble your team of pieces on the board. The board is not flat like chess, although it is similar with squares; you have to deal with foliage, rocks, water, trees, and more to move your creatures from one side to the other. When one creature approaches another, you are taken to an attack screen where the two face each other on an obstacle board. You must use your creature's abilities to shoot or subdue the other character first to live.
Each time you take damage though, your character will be weaker even if you when, so if it fights several different times, it most likely will lose due to more and more damage, unless it is a vampire sucking life. Hope you enjoy this great game of fantasy strategy, its fun for good pairs of players!
