Classic Empire was created by Walter Bright, It was written in the late 1970’s. It is a game of world domination. I think of it similar to risk but a lot more advanced because you control a navy and fighters. You can build armies, fighters, submarines, transports, destroyers, carriers, cruisers, and battleships. Each one has its own special ability that can help or hinder you combat. The game is very addictive. The best part Walter Bright has it free to download.

I first played the game in the mid to late 1980’s at a friend’s house from school. It is a very addictive game. I had times when I would be up all night playing against my brother trying to see who would conquer

the world. It can be played from one to three players. Additionally, you can play one player against two computers or just one on one against the computer. Recently I found it on the internet and have become hooked once again. My wife thinks I am nuts staying up most of the night to play an old game. There is an updated version for the PC. You can download a demo version. The newer version is more cumbersome and has more to conquer. You can create satellites, and other military devices. I think the newer version is harder because you have to track a lot more equipment and I think it takes to long to play and master it. The older version you can change the difficult level by having the opponent build faster, build better quality so they have an advantage. But you have a better strategy and can outsmart their capabilities.
The graphics are old and the simulated attacks are not the greatest to look at, but it is a strategy game to outsmart your opponent. Once you start to play, you have to decide what to build first. Also, you have to plan ahead on what to build. Do you build a lot of fighters or armies? Do you try to dominate the sea and hope you sink the opponent’s transports before they reach your cities? Additionally you have to decide how to take over more land that is occupied by the opponents. I like to bring in fighters along with armies to keep the opponents armies away from the city I just captured. One fighter could kill up to five armies in one turn, compared to one move per turn for the armies.
I strongly recommend the game for any one who likes a strategy game to try to outsmart an opponent.
