Grandmaster Chess is an interesting game. Most people see all those different chess games out there and probably think the same thing I do. How many things can you do with chess? When it comes to Grandmaster, they made up for the lack of original gameplay (If it don't play like chess, it aren’t chess) by putting in a huge amount of customization.
Ever thought to yourself, "I'd love to play chess blindfold, but then I'll knock down the pieces." Grandmaster solves that problem by allowing you to choose blindfold mode, where you see the pieces only when they move.
You can choose from several chess sets as well, ranging from traditional, human, monster, and a few more. There are different types of boards as well, ranging from the traditional Marble and Wood to Circuit. The graphics are about what you'd expect, birds' eye view of a 2d board, with the pieces laying on their back. You shouldn't need more than that. However, if you do there's an option for a 3d board.
Apart from the aesthetic preferences, you can also choose whether to see the possible moves the piece you've selected can do, set the style of the AI (Balanced, Active, Passive), the difficulty of your opponent(Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Expert, Grandmaster), and the time allowed for each move, as
well as 60 moves (Time allotted for a single move is custom, time allotted for 60 moves is set at 5, 15, 30, and 60 minutes. There is also a fully customizable option as well as a few others.)
You can also fully customize the players. You can choose if computer has black, or white. You can cho0se to have two players, so that you can play your friends without the hassle of setting up a board. There's also my favourite option, having two computers play each other.
You can change every single one of these options in the middle of a game. Two moves in, you can decide the computer is too hard and lower it. Or it's too easy and notch it up a little. Maybe you're bored with the board and want to give it a new look. Or 25 moves into the game, with your pieces mixed around in the board, you can blindfold yourself and your friend to add another edge to it.
There are quite a few more options that I'll leave up to you to find. I recommend this game over any other chess game solely because of the amount of customization possible.
